Discover More aims to accelerate the learning process together through intentional dialogues. Starting in 2020, we will do a book review at the end of the month for every episode. Let us know in the comments and reviews on both of our platforms about the new format.
Ryan Holiday's new book, Seek Wisdom, focuses on the need to ask questions, the importance of intellectual humility, and the power of experiences to open our eyes to truth and understanding. Holiday argues that by utilizing the Socratic Method, you can inevitably encounter the universal truth.
Stillness is best not sought alone, and like success, it is best when shared. From there, we move into the second section of the book, Being Spirit. The chapter that we picked in the Spirit is Interrelationships.
Holiday: Using your relationship as a mirror to see yourself. We can ultimately learn so much about ourselves just by looking at what the other person may be. To conclude he mentions the great philosopher Freud Love, the great educator. We get closer to stillness through it.
The second section that we chose from the Spirit section is Accept a Higher Power. This is about rejecting the tyranny of her intellect and accepting something bigger, something beyond ourselves. Ryan Holiday is not a believer but he underscores the true importance of not believing in yourself only.
The ultimate purpose of stillness is being present in the beautiful moments around you. We encourage anyone and everyone to pick up a copy of the book. Each chapter is four pages.
If you haven’t heard yet, stillness is the key to just about everything. Ryan Holiday’s best selling book, Stillness is the Key, is one of the most impactful books we’ve ever read and this episode is our effort to share our biggest takeaways and lessons learned. As Holiday explains, stillness is that moment where thoughts settle around you. It’s that ability to get quiet, step back, and truly reflect. It’s the thing that allows you to think clearly, make tough decisions, and handle high-pressure situations. It’s one of the most powerful forces in the world. Holiday masterfully draws on examples from a range of subjects and distills wisdom down into relatable, actionable four to six-page chapters. We cannot recommend this book more, and we hope you pick up a copy and/or discover more about it on this weeks’ episode.
