This week’s guest is Casey Palmer. He’s a Canadian content creator, IT project manager, podcast host, and a Black father to two amazing kids in Toronto.
We often tell ourselves we aren't enough. You need to envision who you want to be and start making small steps towards that. I celebrate the small wins every day of what I'm able to accomplish in a day. There's so much that happens in the moments in between those major life milestones.
From both of your storytelling, I noticed a very keen insight and your ability to have this unique perspective and constructive way of viewing everything. A lot of people view these cultural phenomenons as an overnight success, but it's not overnight. Where did that ability come from?
What's the larger calling? What can I convey in this entire website or this entire mission? The other thing that really jumps out is the different lenses you bring to the world. Every family should be allowed to celebrate Father's Day in a way befitting of their family.
And I think that seamlessly transitions into the next topic, which is imposter syndrome. How would you a construct a way to approach Impulsive Syndrome that's in a sustainable way? People battle it through their whole lives. It's a lifelong process.
I like to think of my life as like I'm trying to lead two or three lives simultaneously. I've packed in several more decades of experience I should have later on. I celebrate the small wins every day of what I'm able to accomplish in a day. We need to do more of that celebration in our lives.
How have you owned your blackness in this cultural landscape that you've talked about both off mic and on the questionnaire? My identity for a long time as a black person, I'd say blackness was kind of like erased in my mind until I maybe hit my late teens, early 20s. Now I understand what it is that I represented to my parents at the time when I was growing up.
"And I find that when you have parent creators who focus a lot on inserting the kids into everything, like 'hey look at this cute picture of my kids' or 'here's what my kids up to... They lose themselves in the process. Whereas with me, I feel like the blog and all the stuff I created was a good self-check-in throughout the process. Because what I want the brand to ultimately communicate is, not so much here is what my life as a dad looks like because of my kids, I want to communicate here is the man I'm becoming, because I'm a dad." - Casey Palmer
