Setting intentions first for the day. With those intentions then I'm able to show up and do the things way better than someone who's just running from thing to thing like a chicken with his head cut off.
I think that in particular, really boils down to values like the values conversation. How many of us have these values that we say are ours, but our actions speak otherwise. It takes this level of vulnerability to strip it all the way down to its true core.
The difference between body physique building and swimming is even when you're submerging in the water, you still almost see your competition. Sometimes you're dancing with yourself internally. So I really wanted to just comment on the mental side of the game.
Do you have a checklist of some of the qualifiers you feel on your peak performance day? On some days, you wake up feeling more optimal than usual. Or on this day, I'm less optimal. How do you tap into that feeling?
I've been really fascinated with this notion of enjoyment versus pleasure lately. Are we getting a deeper level of satisfaction and that enjoyment, that fulfillment? So helping people recognize that and then move through it goes a long way too.
From like, 20 miles, 20 onwards was just absolutely brutal. Coach helped me get out of my head and finish. No matter how great you're going to feel, you're still going to have moments in that race.
"One of the things that coach of mine actually helped me work through was creating a 'To Be List. So setting intentions first for the day, and then with those intentions, they run your to-do list. So what I mean by that is instead of on my to-do list today, being I need to record a podcast with you guys, I need to do whatever, it becomes: all right how do I want to be today? That's the first question that I'm asking when I wake up. So getting clear on those intentions I think goes a long way." - Cory Camp
