#90. The Reflective Episode—The Freedom of Choicelessness, Joy of Learning & Compass Question(s)

Discover More aims to accelerate the learning process together through intentional dialogues. Only by taking that first step into purpose are we able to actually move forward. We hope you enjoy and continue to Discover More.

The idea of detachment really comes up for me throughout that story. That both applies to this clinical field placement as well as the GPA. All that matters is the practice, the process. That's something that we've been shouting from the rooftops on Discover More since day one.

Aidan: My dad and I had the biggest fight in our lives. One of my most treasured pillars is family, period. After a true complete detachment, the outcome fell into his lap when he had zero expectations.

Recently completed one of his biggest bucket list items: running a marathon. Why did you do it? I really just approached it with that detached mindset. I really feel that difficult challenges or obstacles bring out the best in us.

You're either healing or stealing from your future self, right? He says he wanted to do everything in that moment to serve that future self that would be running the marathon. He says removing any expectations from a long run allowed him to lean into the experience.

Life is a dance, not a journey. I've been really trying to lean into that ethos of enjoying life as it is presently. Thank you everyone for sticking with us for two plus years. The discovery journey never stops.

"During the last 12 months of actively moving through different exercises and talking to different folks, I've come to realize that discovering purpose or finding purpose is inherently flawed. Because it ultimately is cultivated. It's ultimately uncovered. Only by taking that first step purposefully, are we able to actually move forward. All we can do is take that first step of what feels like a purpose-driven step in the moment." - Aidan Weinmann

If there’s one thing we learned in 2021, it’s that uncertainty is the only certainty.

Change is the only constant.

Ultimately, it is how we navigate both change & uncertainty that determines the way we feel about our life experience.

In this week’s episode, hosts Aidan & Benoit reflect and share their biggest challenges, wins, and lessons learned from the past year.

Aidan shares about his concept of a “Compass Question”— which transformed the way he sets goals and led him to running his first marathon this year.

Benoit speaks to his first semester in graduate school at USC, and how shifting his focus from GPA towards learning allowed him to unexpectedly achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA.

This episode is packed with mindsets, reframing, and emotional toolkits that we hope serve you in some way this upcoming year.

We hope you join us and enjoy this episode of Discover More.

And here’s to an extraordinary 2022.
